Working Nine to Five
Hey, everyone! GUESS what?! Remember how I wanted to star in a show after my recent stage debut? Well, we found out that Katie was headed to MN to help with the production of “9 to 5” at Great River School. It’s too bad they already cast the show & I couldn’t get a starring role. Next time, I’ll be here early so I can audition. And they’d already filled all the positions on Tech Crew. Never fear- we found some ways to be helpful. Yeti was less interested in working and more interested in relaxing on the couch.
First step- we read the script so we could learn more about the story. Wow, there are a lot of surprising things happening in this show! Brrr was laughing a lot.
We saw some openings to make the show even better, so we put ourselves in charge of some special tasks. First, we started calling the office phones during the performance. Mr. Hart never answers his phone, and Judy keeps hanging up on us. What’s up with that? Are they busy or something?
We also check all the office equipment before each performance to make sure it’s operational. Yeti tried to practice her math. She wanted to find out how much money she would have if she added a trazillion dollars to a kabillion dollars. Unfortunately, the adding machine didn’t go up to that many digits.
We check out the couches to make sure they’re comfortable each night. Some bouncing up and down and jumping off the ceiling also ensures that they’re safe for the actors during the show. Safety first!
After watching the first show, we snuck over to the light board and had fun turning the lights on and off. We may or may not have added some cues to the show. You’re welcome, everyone!
We truly enjoyed playing with the sound board. We had a rockin’ party all night long with the music cranked up. Okay, before we get kicked out, I’ll clarify. We weren’t “playing” with the sound board. We were using it very responsibly and being extremely careful.
All this work made me thirsty. I thought I could drink some pop and work on the sound at the same time. Then I found out you’re not supposed to eat or drink near expensive equipment. Also, liquids and electricity don’t mix well. Oops. We mopped it up really well. I mean, we would have cleaned up after ourselves if we spilled anything. Which we definitely did not.
Fajita found a cup of coffee left behind by one of the secretaries. They drank it right down and then had a grand old time. Guess they’re learning some tricks from Sneaks.
If you come see the performances this weekend, look for us backstage. We’ll be the ones working the hardest and getting no pay. That’s okay, though, because none of the actors or crew get paid. We get all the fame & glory instead. That works for us!
