Stuffies Are Taking Over?

Greetings from YMCA Camp Shady Brook in Colorado! It's Beary snowy here and I needed to help out with the camp road. Driving one of these tractors is pretty easy when you get the hang of it! It’s a little harder with the plow attached, but no big deal for this bear. Here’s to hoping they still pay me in snacks and hot chocolate. There’s definitely not much food in the camp Dining Hall this time of year. For a non-hibernating bear, I have to be pretty crafty about keeping a low profile when raiding the Director’s kitchens. I mean, um “hmmmm… hmm…hmmm” the ice fishing is a little tricky on the lake. Yeah, that’s what I meant.

We couldn’t figure out where our host family went in such a hurry on Monday. Well we were pleasantly surprised when they came back this afternoon with our favorite dog - Stella (the magnificent as we call her). We learned her family is going skiing and the resort won’t let her on skis so our family picked her up. Should be a big outdoor adventure in our future!

As you might know, us raccoons are pretty clever. We’re especially good at board games. And this one is a perfect one to learn. We can find out where to find fresh water to wash our food, where all the humans hang out (so we can snack on their leftover goodies), and which are the best vistas. And, it helps us learn which seasons we’ll have to fend for ourselves for food. Not a lot of people can get down those backcountry roads in the winter snows. Bummer for us…

In other news, a certain cute dragon decided to take over an empty bird’s nest. “Yay for me!” An empty, cozy hide-out right near the garden. I know this is the place to come for onions, garlic tomatoes, peppers, basil- you know, all the good stuff for making salsa! It couldn’t hurt to check it out and see what was growing. Looks like not much this time of year. I could wait a long time in this cozy spot, but there’s probably more rain on the way. I’ll have to come back later.

Toodles the puppy here. I go way back with my best friend Michael. Making noise is one of my favorite things, which is why I’m so lucky to be a pianist living with a famous composer! I wrote my own song back in the day. It’s called “The Toodles Song” and I’m pretty sure you’re going to love it! Enjoy!
