Scottie Seeks Outdoor Adventure
Hey, Friends! It’s Scottie, reporting to you about one of our many summer vacations. Boy, are we lucky that our landlords like to travel! One of our fun adventures was exploring the wildlife and great outdoors in British Columbia and Washington state. My favorite sighting? This little chipmunk friend. She saw me coming and came out to say “hello”. Can you see her? She’s pretty shy…
On our first day, we went to a place called Butchart Gardens (on Vancouver Island). It’s famous for its flowers and landscaping. You can see why! (And, don’t worry- our penguin friend didn’t pick this flower. Gràineag didn’t let them. We promised to get a photo to keep forever.)
Amelia was disappointed that this pond and fountain were behind a fence. We could totally have squeezed through the fence. But, then Dan reminded us that we were in another country. It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to get in trouble with the authorities. So we stayed on the “right” side of the fence.
We learned that Ober really gets into local culture and history. He likes learning even more than dancing and cheese. I know, it’s hard to believe! This totem pole was pretty cool.
There were many things to discover and learn about. We had a great time learning more about mining, panning for gold, and geology in this local hot spot. Probably good that our friend Yeti wasn’t here! She would not have left this store…
Speaking of things that are very old… If you’re looking for dinosaurs, may we recommend the West? This allosaurus was living large.
Flambe was more impressed by this dragon… He thinks they look identical. What are your thoughts?
On the next day, we headed into the rainforest for some hikes. Boy, were there some incredible trees to be found! We couldn’t believe how tall some of them were. Also, there were lots of trees growing on trees all around. How does that happen? We’re still not sure.
If ever a friend wanted to play hide-and-seek, this would be the forest. Just look at this great spot!
Amelia Airheart loved all the water in the Pacific Northwest! We found lots of ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and estuaries. Not to mention the Salish Sea. However, between the cold temperatures, the whitecaps, the deep ravines, and the raging rapids, there weren’t a lot of swimming places. Amelia was feeling pretty sad about it.
Her disappointment didn’t last for long. We found this pond. It was the perfect end to a busy day.
More about our other vacations very soon. Hope you’re having a good summer!
