Scottie and Friends Play in the Sand

Hey, Stuffie Friends! We’ve been doing some work in Eugene, OR. We were rewarded for being on our best behavior in the Hotel room with a trip to the beach! We were really excited to check out the place Yeti & Friends have been enjoying for all of these months. Can’t wait to see them there!

Looking out the window of the hotel, you can see that we started out with pretty low expectations as the day was foggy and it was only 40 degrees.

When we got to Hecata Beach, it was sunny and in the upper 50's - pretty nice for this time of year. As soon as we got of the car we could hear the waves and smell the salt air. Loonie and Wol the Owl couldn't wait so they flew over the dune and found a great viewing spot.

I found my own vantage point and tried to see if I could spy any of our friends at the beach. No luck so far!

The waves were not as big as we expected, so we thought it was safe to venture down to the seashore. I’d told all our friends about my beach research. We needed to be on the lookout for rogue waves. A rogue wave is an extra-big wave that travels by itself and has so much energy that it’s spinning out of control. It reminds us a little of some friends we know. Maybe that’s why the Little Guys love the beach? Anyway, Dan made us team up- just in case a rogue wave should arrive.

While looking at the ocean, Amelia noticed these tracks on the sand. Hmmm… wonder where these go? I really wanted to find out, but then she reminded me about what happened last winter when we did some tracking…. Maybe we shouldn’t go there again.

Amelia & Amelia put their heads together and started figuring out what it would take to get En Plein Air flights across the ocean. They’re still doing regional flights for now, but it doesn’t hurt to dream! They’ll keep you posted once they figure out those logistics.

We walked (and flew) for what seemed like forever. Must have been 15 miles- at least. It was worth it when we got to this river. What a cool spot! We were curious about all those holes in the bank. Who lives there? Maybe that’s where our Stuffie buddies live? If so, no one came out to say “Hi”. And we did a LOT of shouting. They definitely would have heard us.

It was time to leave the beach and get back. Sad, but also- dinner was waiting! If we were really lucky, maybe there would be treats on the drive home! On our way back, Flicker noticed some really neat sand dunes along the river. We made such a fuss that Dan pulled over and let us out. The dunes were stunning, to say the least. And, they were about 1/2 mile in from the ocean. We wouldn't have expected that- how did all that sand get here?

We also spotted a little pond area between the sand dunes. We saw little bugs swimming, which gave us a good idea. Why not take a dip?! We were about to dive in, but Dan said if we did, he'd leave us there. We didn't want to push our luck, so we stayed dry.

All good things must come to an end. We were sad to leave the beach. And sad there was no sign of Taco, Fajita, Jicama, Yeti, or any of our other friends. Maybe they were off on a trip?

After our great afternoon, we headed back to Eugene - where the weather was still foggy and 40! Hoping next weekend will bring another unexpected adventure. Until next time!
