Our Work Here is Done

Hey, Stuffie Friends!

Scottie here reporting from our garden project in the Ciites. I sure “dug” using the the shovel. As soon as I heard this garden bed was for blueberries and raspberries, I knew we needed to make sure the soil was perfect. We will be keeping up on the progress of these plants and making reservations to come back. All of us love berries!

After getting the soil ready, we had to get a wheelbarrow of gravel for supporting the base of the deck. It was fun to take a ride while pushing the empty shovel. There was no way we could push it once it was filled with gravel. Even with all of our gym workouts, there’s only so much we Stuffies can handle.

All that wheelbarrow driving and dirt shoveling sure made me thirsty! Luckily, there was this bottle of delicious drink right nearby. And my paws and claws were perfect for getting that cap open. I managed to drink almost the entire thing before they found me. Very refreshing. And there must have been some energy boosting stuff in that drink- I went wild! SO much fun to run up and down the tree and up and down the fence and up and down the drainpipe and up on the garage roof and back to the tree… I could go on. It was a blast!

This deck framing sure was complicated. Good thing Loonie knows all about construction and D. Bunny, Esq. was on the scene. We decided that with all the moving pieces, we should divide and conquer. Each one of us inspected one part of the project to make sure it was up to scratch:

Flicker did load-bearing tests with her beak to make sure the corners were all attached securely. Wol the Owl made sure everything was on the level. Loonie kept everyone entertained with some songs. D. Bunny took a nap and pretended to be “supervising”. I ran up and down on the gravel a bunch to smoosh it down (told you that drink gave me energy)! Boy, did we do a great job building the base for this deck! Okay, and some humans helped us out a little along the way.

After all that work, we needed a break. The crabapple tree was the perfect place for a short nap! It would have been a long nap but then they started trimming all the dead branches. You would think it would be relaxing to hear a gentle sawing noise and have a “massage chair” (vibration machine) turned on while you’re sleeping on a nice, sunny day. It is not. We definitely don’t recommend it. Flicker spotted a branch that sloped gently towards the ground. It was super fun sliding back down to the yard!

After all that work, we certainly earned a little entertainment. Luckily there was this fun game on TV. We learned it’s called golf. Apparently these tournaments are a big deal and there are huge cash prizes. Not only that, it involves a lot of birdies and an occasional eagle. We have got to get out on the course and get ready for next year’s season!

As we said it was a super day to be outside. We can’t wait to go back to and help some more. Or maybe we’ll just show up when the berries are ripe and sneak a few snacks later in the summer.

Hope your day was as much fun as ours!
Scottie, Loonie, Wol the Owl and Flicker
