Magnificent Day at the Tidepools

Greetings from your fabulous friend Yeti! We definitely had a terrific time checking out the beach the other day. I raced some friends up the rock faces and won! Okay, Taco and Fajita say they beat me but that’s because their rock was much, much, much shorter than mine. And Taco does have wings. It’s hard to not use an advantage like that!

See that green stuff stuck to the rock? Katie said it’s called “sea lettuce” and you can eat it. The real question is, would you want to? Apparently, she and some other veggie-loving friends think it’s the greatest thing since… spinach? We were just wondering if we got to stop for ice cream on the way home. That has seaweed in it BUT it actually tastes good. Mmm… ice cream….

Besides the miles and miles of algae you can see behind us, there was also a vast number of barnacles. Too many to count. You can see them all over the rocks underneath us. The little ones are just a little bumpy. The big ones are very uncomfortable to sit on. Yes, even for a stuffy. Nobody likes to have things poking into their backside. We’re pretty sure it would be nice and cozy to sit on that sand in the cool, cool water on top of that mossy seaweed. Too bad we couldn’t go swimming!

EXCEPT that our friend Zeborah “fell” into the pool right after we were told “no swimming today”. Did they fall? They did not. We watched them “accidentally” jump up in the air and land face first in the water. To be completely honest (I know, unusual move for me), it was a pretty sweet dive. They smelled like fish and the ocean and had to spend the rest of the trip in Katie’s front pocket. Maybe it wouldn’t have been worth it, after all.

It was Jicama that spied the perfect cliff for climbing right nearby. She said Fajita is old enough to do some climbing as long as they’re careful. And as long as we took some time to meditate and just enjoy the sound of the gulls and the surf and the wind in the pines. After waiting forever, [Katie here- it was approximately 90 seconds] we finally got to go scale the cliff. Jicama reached the top in just 2 bounds. The rest of us took a little longer. Snitch & Twitch hung out together, as always.

And this last picture is just to prove that I am, in fact, pretty amazing. Some might say I’m angelic. They would be correct, in my not-so-humble opinion. This burst of sunlight did come right on me just as I was reaching the summit, after all. Must be a sign from above!
