Hooray for Snow Days!

Stuffie friends!
When we got up today, the snowstorm had cleared, so we decided to go out and have some fun. It was a long day with some pretty harrowing moments so we were glad our watchdog and friend Stella came. First, we needed to stop for breakfast. Lucky Scottie remembered the bird feeder in the yard! It was full of sunflower seeds and event some suet- both of which are high protein. Mmm!

We weren’t sure where we wanted to go- there were so many options! What caught our attention most was the top sign that promised cookies. We decided to make a side trip and we each had a wonderful “breakfast cookie“. (It’s a famous recipe up here and includes oatmeal, coconut and chocolate.) We were now ready to take on the slopes!

What a magnificent find. Spruce trees in a forest of red oak. The slopes were a bit overgrown since his was first big snow so the snow pack was only 5”. We didn’t let that stop us! Luckily, we had just gotten some new poles for our fantastic skis . They really helped the balance with the uneven snow and a couple of moguls.

Fortunately, Stella spotted these bald eagles out looking for a morning snack. We needed to find cover in a hurry since they are very fast. We ducked into one of the fir trees to hide. Thank goodness they decided she was too big and could cause them a lot of trouble so they flew away.

Since we were already in the tree, we decided to latch up our skis and try a ski jump from the branch . We were pretty high up (especially for a squirrel new to skiing). Amelia assured me that even if I fell, the snow was soft and fluffy so I wouldn’t get hurt. 10 point landings! What an exhilarating experience!

We finally made it home. Scottie thinks our landlords need to change the canoe decoration to the traditional holiday wreath ..... Oh, wait- it’s still October and usually people are still canoeing. The wreath doesn’t go up until Thanksgiving.

Before going in, we decided the snow was perfect for building a snowman. We named him Herbert - (Herb for short) since he was right next to the summer herb garden. Since it’s so cold up north, we decided to give him some hair and fancy hat.

We were treated to some great Ghirardelli hot cocoa when we got in. We sure burned a lot of calories with our ski adventure. Wonder what’s for lunch?
