High Flying Adventures
Hello, hello! You’ll be hearing from two of us on this post. We had to flip a coin to decide who got to go first, because we were both super-duper excited to go on our adventure!
Genie and I were looking for something fun to do because it’s been pretty cold and rainy around here. (Winter, am I right?) We found this indoor high ropes course and Katie said she’d be happy to take us there. Whoo Hoo! We love adventures!
I (Francis) get to go first. I decided to climb this high wire called the “Flying V” because it has two sides you can hold if you’re feeling nervous. I wasn’t too worried because you first learn all about the ropes course and how it works. You put on extremely specialized gear that keeps you safe. The harness you wear is connected to these ropes with something called a “carabiner”. It’s basically a very fancy clip. You need it so the person on the other side of the rope can catch you if you fall off the wire. Perfect!
Once you’re attached, you climb up a ladder. Then there are these little pegs on the pole that you climb. They were pretty tricky to hold onto with my hands. My boots were amazing, though. Perfect footwear for the job! And here’s me crossing the wire really far above the ground. Wow, was that cool! I can’t wait to do all the other activities here. Also, my spinach cam got some really good shots of the scenery from up there.
That first high-wire activity was incredible! I had so much fun that I decided to try the Giant Swing. For that one, you only have to climb a ladder after you get hooked into the safety equipment. Then a team does all the work. They pull you really high up to the top of the pole. Then you let go and yell “WHEEEEE!” as you swing back and forth. Here’s me on the ladder…
I’m not going to lie to you. I stood on top of that ladder for a Looooooooong time. I pretty much froze. And then Genie suggested maybe it would be easier if I wasn’t thinking about how far the ground was. Maybe if I just thought about how much I love flying and swinging and all of that, it would be easier to let go. (That Genie- he is a smart cookie.) In the next photo, you’ll see me about to let go of the ladder.
As soon as you let go, you are lifted and released. I was swinging back and forth so fast you couldn’t see me- I mean, it was fast. Sorry you can’t see me in action! The picture was too blurry to share.
I’m hoping I get to come back tomorrow. Or the next day. I can be patient.
-Francis
Hey, friends! It’s Genie and it’s my turn to talk about the day. Unlike Francis, when I heard all about the course and the safety equipment it needed and what was going to happen, I got super scared. The more they said things like “this rope is here to hold you so you won’t fall” the more I thought about falling. And how much courage it would take to climb up these ladders and go incredibly high in the air. Yikes! It was not for me. But, I’m so, so, so proud of Francis. I can’t believe all the things Francis did today! Amazing! That being said, I hope to never see this place again. For our next rainy day outing, I’m hoping we can go to a spa.
