Colorado- It's All About the Rocks
Greetings, All! Remember how I love nothing more than some snacks and a good adventure? Well, we’ve got another vacation to tell you all about. We’ve also been to Colorado this summer. It was a great time, especially our visit to “the Garden of the Gods” in Colorado Springs!
It was one of the neatest places we’ve ever seen. Fantastic rock outcroppings and many stories about the importance to the Native American tribes who once inhabited the area. They often used this location as an annual gathering space.
We learned was that some people who lived here donated the property to the State of Colorado… on the condition that no admission would ever be charged for visitors. Apparently, this is unusual but the right thing to do. That’s especially true when a place is named “Garden of the Gods”- how do you pay gods, anyway? Maybe we don’t want to know.
We did a lot of hiking while we were there. Every time we thought we’d seen a great rock formation, around the corner was another!
We were actually adopted for the day by the Taylor-Miesle family. We were supposed to meet up with the Blondo’s but we lost track of them when we went in search of snacks. They got to tour the park twice and traveled in an air-conditioned SUV. We want to do that tour tomorrow!
In addition to all the interesting rock formations, we found lots of other things of note. For example, this isn’t any old box of rocks…
Did you ever see so many cool-colored rocks? No wonder they have ferocious guards keeping watch.
There were some pretty beautiful vistas all around Colorado. Pretty much everywhere you look…
Like we said, cool vistas. And, no, we didn’t get to try the beer or margaritas. They did have some pretty tasty barbeque, however. And Amelia Airheart is thinking of expanding her travel business.
A wonderful time was had by all. Until our next vacation post.
