Amelia Airheart and Scottie Disappear for a Snowy Adventure
We really didn’t mean to make our humans panic. It was just such a snowy, lovely morning that we couldn’t help go out on the lake. There were all these weird little houses that popped up overnight. Always a possibility that they are holding hot chocolate and delicious goodies. Maybe some roasted nuts or chocolate cakes?
I could have just flown out to check it out but I really didn’t want to leave Scottie behind. And he couldn’t walk because the snow was too deep. Thank goodness we were able to convince Dan to take us out on the lake. He said he wanted to take his snowshoes for a spin anyway. (Boy, those things look pretty weird! The things humans do…) We had a nice pocket ride while he trudged out about 1/4 a mile across the lake.
About halfway out, Scottie got pretty nervous as it looked like the ice was turning into slush. By that time we were so far out that if the ice was going to break, we were doomed. We continued because we figured it must be safe with all those ice houses out there. We finally made it and discovered the houses aren’t made of ice after all. And some of them are more like tents. They’re called that because they drill holes in the ice to go fishing. These humans think of the weirdest things! They are using really short fishing poles to try to catch fish. Scottie had experience from fishing this summer so he was invited to give it a try. I was hoping he’d catch me some fresh fish. No luck!
While Scottie was busy fishing, Missy the dog decided to come over and check us out. Scottie’s concentration wasn’t broken at all. I found it very unpleasant. Dog noses are cold in the best of times! She is a very friendly dog, kind of like Stella. Her owner said they had caught some nice pike and crappies that they had already put in the cooler. Unfortunately, he wasn’t willing to share with me. Maybe next time…
We noticed an unusual machine sitting nearby. Brandon said it is called a snow mobile. But, again with these humans- it is not made out of snow! They said it goes really fast. We couldn’t wait to drive it. Unfortunately, we were too small to get it into the proper gear so we weren't allowed to drive it.
There was still plenty of daylight left, so we talked our “driver” into taking us by the hockey rink. We were hoping we could maybe join a pick-up game. Unfortunately, no one was there. The ice looked fantastic as no one had skated on it yet. Apparently took the goals away to use a fancy machine to redo the ice. We would LOVE to drive that machine. Wonder who we could ask for that favor?
Well at least we know the rink is ready. We need some hockey gear before we come back another day. As you can see, we’re getting pretty serious about our winter sports. That's about all for today. We have plans to ask for an extra serving of food since we spent so much time and energy outside today.
Your friends, Amelia and Scottie
