Road Trips Equal Snacks. More, Please!

Yeti, Taco, and Friends!

Scottie here, reporting from the road. We just got back from Nashville and we are soooo thankful to go on another trip! It’s nice to get away from all the Minnesota snow and cold!

We headed to Columbus, OH to visit some friends. We had to fill Sneaks in on the world of “road trips”- keep your eyes open for snacks, restaurants, and adventures. It makes the endless hours in the car feel more worthwhile. And this trip’s destinations did not disappoint. Both stops featured two of our favorite things: playing cards and…. FOOD!

Sneaks started out with a dice game. He had fun, but he didn’t have much luck. The object was to match 10 dice with the same number. His best round? 3. Truthfully, he was at a disadvantage because the faster you rolled, the better chance you had to match 10 dice. It was pretty hard to pick them up with big paws.

On the other hand, he quickly understood the strategy of the card game we played next. You had to hide the cards in your hand and be really crafty. Sneaks was happy to lend a helping hand.

The next game was a favorite of Amelia Airheart’s and mine. Each card had animals on it. I loved all the squirrels, chipmunks, weasels, and other furry animals on them. Amelia and Sneaks choose cards with big animals–bison, elk, deer, moose, and bears! We decided it was more fun to find the cards than to play the game they were playing. To each their own.

We were introduced to a new game called Phase 10. Thanks to Elly, we understood the rules. She also and helped us hold all 10 cards. We had a wonderful time and outlasted some of the humans. And, somehow Dan won the game. We can’t wait to try this one when we get home!

One night, we got to have a pizza party. Can you ever get enough pizza? We say “NO!” Thankfully Isaiah was willing to make a trip to the great pizza restaurant nearby. It was just a 5 minute walk away, but we stayed home and waited for the goods to appear. Why do all the work when someone will deliver?

MMMMmmm, that was good! And it gave us enough energy to hit the arcade. Now, that place was awesome!

Another night Don decided to make Paella for dinner. He always does gourmet cooking. That’s a big reason Amelia & I look forward to these Ohio trips! (For those of you who don’t know, paella is a combination of special broth, rice, tomatoes, cilantro, spices, cheese. In this case, it also had shrimp, sausage, and some special chicken on the side). We took lots of notes watching the master chef prepare this dish. It was outstanding and we’re hoping our landlords will make it for us sometime soon.

We were sad to leave Ohio. It was made easier by promises of a return to the Miesles in Woodburn, IN. We told Sneaks that Ruth loves to cook and, more importantly, to bake! Well, we were not disappointed! We loaded up on potato soup, sandwiches, fresh fruit, and , of course, peanut M&M’s as an hors d’ouevres.

Excuse us for a minute. We need to take care of an important task.

Well, all things must come to an end. And that pie ended up in the tummies of 3 very satisfied stuffies. Thanks, Ruth!

We are now back in Minnesota. Snow still on the ground and below freezing here. The house is out of cookies and it was 75 degrees in Ohio. Why did we come home, again? More road trips, please!
