One More Update from the Trail
Dear Yeti (and Other Interested Parties),
We are hard on the campaign trail up here in Northern MN. So far, we have gotten around Grand Rapids and several nearby towns. We thought you’d want an update as the days are quickly coming to a close before your election. It’s been exciting helping you with this project!
Our first stop was the local public radio station KAXE. As you can see, they have a big cell tower so it reaches most of the Northland.
We did a live interview. There were many callers with questions. We knew most of the answers… and don’t worry, Yeti. What we didn’t know, we just made up! We’ll send you notes in case anyone asks.
And more great news! We learned some of the broadcasts go world wide (as shown on this sculpture). And the best news? It didn’t cost anything- it’s public radio!
It was extremely lucky that we started there. Someone at the radio station mentioned that to be on the local ballot, you have to be registered with the Clerk of Court office. Thankfully, it is in town. They were pleased we had all of your material and agreed to have us sign for you. You are officially on the ballot! And, we’re sure S’mores is on top of this, but you might want to follow up with other voting precincts to make sure everything’s ready.
Since a lot of people vote by mail, we checked out the Post Office. We’re glad to report the drive-through ballot box is in working order and all ready to go.
Next door to the Post Office is the Library. It’s a great place to learn all kinds of stuff, so we headed over there to do some canvassing. We were handing out leaflets until they told us that it’s prohibited on public property. Oops! We headed out of there right away. We don’t want to compromise your campaign!
As we had a busy morning, we were very hungry. It was the perfect time to stop at the new Dunkin’ for donuts and drinks. We’d show you pictures… but we ate it so fast there was nothing left. And, it was a productive stop, as well. They were nice enough to let us hand out some leaflets!
Across the street from the donut shop is the local Mall. A perfect place to do some campaigning! We went inside and talked to several businesses. They said to come back on Saturday when there are a lot more customers. Probably just as well- we will need to print enough brochures to hand out to the crowds. We also noted that they have an ice cream and desert shop. We might be there all day!
Scottie spotted a Target Store. We checked out the parking lot, but it was pretty quiet in the middle of a weekday. We decided to save that for Sunday afternoon when we know the lot will be full.
Next, it was time to we hit the small towns nearby. After these initial rounds, we’ll send Amelia, Flicker, and Wol the L’Owl to follow up. Their ability to fly means they can cover huge areas much faster.
Finally, we stopped at the Ice Arena to find out when the next ice hockey practices and games will be. It will be the perfect time to have some undivided attention from lots of local sports enthusiasts.
Scottie saw this little vehicle outside. He insisted we could come back tonight, find the keys, and do some backroading to reach people living in more remote places. We voted against it. Seemed like a bad idea?!
Well, that’s our update for now. We are heading to the Cities this weekend and will report back on our efforts very soon. Best of luck, Yeti!
