(Not Exactly) A Hawai‘ian Vacation

Aloha, everyone! Greetings from the warm, sandy beaches of our most tropical US destination! It is sunny and very hot here. Wonder why Scottie didn’t mention the humidity or daily rainfall in his posts? Of course, when I looked at the globe to see where we were (MN) and where we were headed (HI), it should have been clear to me that we didn’t need to pack any winter gear.

What’s that you say? The “sand” in photo 1 looks suspiciously like the “carpet” in photo 2? I don’t know what you’re talking about . We are definitely on vacation in the tropics. Just check out this photo of us lounging on the beach near the crystal-clear, aquamarine water!

And look at how helpful we’re being setting up benches for the upcoming luau! Would we do that if we weren’t about to enjoy delicious tropical fruits like fresh pineapple while listening to music near the beach? Of course not.

Oh, so now you have comments about all the deciduous trees without any leaves in the background? What are you, arborists? We wondered about that, too. We’re happy to share with you the knowledge we learned from our local tour guide. Some trees (even in the tropics) shed their leaves periodically. It’s a way to maximize how much food they make from the sunshine. Which happens all the time here. In Hawai‘i.

As part of our “all-inclusive resort” package, we were offered a chance to experience the zip lines and high challenge course. Adventure? Yes, please! Here we are at the start of the course.

It’s here that Piggy wants me to clarify that she and Froggy 2 told me not to ignore the safety sign on the ladder. Fajita agreed with them and stayed low and “safe”.

And, yes, I hear you. "Stormy sky and no leaves on the trees, grass on the ground. Yeti, are you really where you say you are?” For your information, there are thunderstorms in Hawai‘i, too. And those are clearly cherry blossom pixie stick trees in the background. The so-called “grass” is a new crop they’re trying out here. It’s some kind of herb you sprinkle on pizza. We didn’t ask too many questions, because 1) we’re on vacation and 2) who cares?

Rules, schmoolze- BORING. What are we doing this challenge course, for, anyway? Of course I headed up high. Taco flew up beside me and promised to save me if needed. Luckily for me, it wasn’t needed.

So fine, in fact, that we headed off to the local ice cream and hot chocolate shop. No one was on duty (maybe they were surfing), so we liberated some supplies and helped ourselves. We even cleaned up afterwards, so they wouldn’t be suspicious have to worry about it.

Us hand-cranking whipped cream for our ice-cream sundaes.

Us making hot chocolate from scratch. We would have made coffee, as well, but Sneaks wasn’t with us.

Us getting delicious cocoanut- macaroon cookies.

We played some games at the Arcade. Fajita seems like a calm and collected friend, until you get them in front of Whack-a-Mole. Then, watch out!

One of our best evenings was spent playing with this marble race-track. You’re supposed to put them in at the top & watch them all roll down. It’s a lot more fun to see if you have the reflexes to stop the marbles in their tracks (one point per block) and then whack them down the track full speed to the next friend.

I also took a bunch of marbles out of the track and tried to sell them back to the entertainment coordinators. They were having none of it. They even had the nerve to accuse me of “stealing” their own equipment. Who would do that?!

Here’s our review of Hawai‘i:

Bestest trip in the whole widest world. Can we go again? Can we go somewhere else? When can I get an ice cream maker? Who makes the sun go to bed, anyway? Do I have to go to bed? How come? -Fajita

Not enough tacos. Or hot sauce. Volcanoes were amazing- 10 stars. -Taco

Oh, my, am I brilliant! This vacation idea was one of my best this month. I only wish Brrr hadn’t gone home already. We would have had a great time on those dune buggies. - Yeti

Help us! We’re trapped on this vacation with Yeti and we’re not sure when we get to go home? Can you please send us rocket ship parts immediately?! - Piggy and Froggy 2
