This Scam They Call Halloween

Hey! Everyone listen up! Have I got good news for you!!! Katie was talking to some friends recently about this thing called “Trick-or-Treating”. Apparently she’s been keeping us in the dark for years about this Halloween thing. Accident? I don’t think so! Anyway, here’s how this amazing scam works:

  1. You find, buy, or make yourself a costume. This is the key part. We’ve been told none of the rest of these steps will happen if you just look like your everyday self.

  2. You find a REALLY large bucket or container. We wanted to go 5-gallon bucket size. Then we found out had to carry it ourselves, so that was out.

  3. You wait…. and wait… and wait…. for it to be Halloween evening (October 31st).

  4. When it finally arrives, you put on your costume, grab your bucket, and go out into the world.

  5. You find as many houses, apartments, trailers, RV’s, etc. as you can. (It helps if their porch light is on. That seems to be some super-secret-code for “We have something for you.”) You knock or ring the doorbell & wait for someone to answer.

  6. When they do, you say the magic words, “Trick or treat!” And then…. they give you candy! Sometimes lots of it! If you’re really smiley and cute, they give you extra candy. We know- we got lots of extra candy.

  7. If, for some strange reason, they don’t give you candy, don’t worry. That’s why you said “Trick” or treat. A certain person we live with refused to pay up. All we’ll admit to is that she’ll have a surprise waiting for her the next time she opens the fridge. Hee, hee!
