Birdies Galore!
Greetings, Stuffie Friends!
Scottie and Amelia Airheart (and other friends, of course) reporting to you from some golf tournament or another in North Carolina. We didn’t get to play any holes, ride on any carts, announce anything, meet any famous golfers, or buy any merch. So we don’t much care what the event was- it was boring to us. We were intrigued by the frequent mention of “birdies”. We thought maybe that meant there were special prizes or contests or awards for all of us with feathers. What a disappointment to discover there’s some golf term "birdie” that equals some number. Boo!
It was a great place to see a lot of different people. We were blending in fine until Scottie tried to sneak some food from one of the visitors. He was immediately reported and we were asked to behave or leave! How were we to know they made rules about being friendly? We think the lady was just a bit too snooty but we did control ourselves and didn’t get kicked out. Luckily for us, because there were many things to see…
We sure were happy to see a bunch of pumpkins. It was a good reminder that Halloween is coming up soon & there will be lots of candy in store. We’ll have to make a tough decision about whose house to crash to get the most treats.
Our road trip included lots of different card games. We’re getting pretty good at strategy for the games. Also, our strategy at this house was to stay out of reach of the two puppies here- Luke & Leia. They seem friendly enough, but you never know when a dog might decide to rip out all of your stuffing. No, thank you!
Speaking of cards, this little tray is an amazing thing built by Dan #2. (We heard his name is really Denny, but he looks & sounds a lot like our landlord, so we’re going with Dan #2.)
Anywho, this board is for a card game called “7’s”. If you can’t play a card, then someone else gives you a extra card, which is not a good thing. If you were going for the most cards in your hand, we would have won for sure. We sure gave them a good run for the money. (That’s just a saying, Yeti- no actual $$ was involved. Sadly.)
There’s this really cool spot out back called the “Lakes Miesle” and it is a hopping fishing spot. We tried it out after dinner. Scottie kept insisting we didn’t need any bait, which is probably why we didn’t catch anything! Lucky for us, we had Ranger Rita with us. If the game warden came by asking for our licenses she could explain we are still under the age required for a license.
Katie has talked a lot about the famous deserts Ruth makes. Let us tell you, we weren’t disappointed. This pie was made from fresh apples off their trees. It was delicious, especially with the ice cream on the side. Scottie of course spoiled seconds for the rest of us. When he started to lick the pie plate, that was the end of dessert.
One of our favorite stops was in Cincinnati. Terry and Jeannine are rescue parents for 12 (yes- 12) cockateel birds who have been injured or abandoned. In fact, they have a “bird room” where the birds live in special cages when they aren’t out in the family area.
I mean- just look at this deluxe set-up! We told our landlords that we’d be happy to help them construct such a luxury birding experience at our house. Wouldn’t it be awesome to live here?
These are really lucky birds to have so much care and attention, let alone all the play things that we enjoyed for our visit. These climbing structures were made just for us. Okay, maybe not- but they are the perfect size!
It was sad to say goodbye to this house for sure. They even had a woodpecker window just for Flicker. We hope to be back here very soon!
See you soon!
