Stuffies Trip to Freiburg, Germany
Hey, Stuffie friends! All the European Stuffies and I were invited on a trip to Germany with Dan. The trip was a combination sightseeing and searching for ancestors’ home origins. Maybe, just maybe, we can find some long-lost relatives. Speaking of relatives, Amelia Airheart was on a fall migration trip with her geese cousins so she couldn’t fly us over. That meant we had to be on an airplane for 9 hours. There were some shenanigans and we were grounded for the first day in Germany. Probably for the best, as we were really tired.
One of our favorite stops was Freiburg, so we’ll start by taking you there.
First, we stopped in a tourism bureau to find out about the best sights to see. Lucky for us, our new Stuffie friend Ober (more about her later) knows how to read and speak German. She explained all the sights to see and food to eat. And off we went…
Well, not quite yet. After making our tourism plan for the day, it was clear we needed some extra energy. So we headed back to our hotel where we’d spotted a lot of candy in the dining area. It wasn’t a meal time, so no one was around to see us fill up on candy. Hey, a squirrel’s gotta eat!
We almost made it out unnoticed until the watch dog arrived. Turns out there was nothing to worry about- he was easy to bribe with a piece of licorice.
After having our snack, we headed back outside. We noticed they have a lot of monuments with statues in this town. There was also a very tall church steeple. Only Salsa Flambé and I were able to get to the top. The view was fantastic! Too bad our feathered friends weren’t along to fly others up to see.
Ober said it was very lucky that the cathedral church was not destroyed by bombs in WW2. We decided not to go inside the church. Watching people from the fountain was much more interesting. And some of them gave us crackers and bread to eat. That wouldn’t have happened in a church!
On the way back to the hotel, a dragon on the side of the building was making a lot of noise but with Flambé it was no contest. The dragon got quiet really quickly. Ober mentioned it’s very important to be respectful of the guardians of the city. Not sure Flambé really heard her.
We had a really fun time in Freiburg and can’t wait to share more about our trip to Germany. Until next time!
