Scottie Shops for a Winter Home
Friends, I’m Getting Ready for Winter!
It is starting to get cold with the first frost this week so I am starting to look for a winter residence . Today I was at my friends’ house in St. Paul where they have a great backyard with giant Oak trees. I decided I might explore my options here with Bamboo & Sneaks since it gets to -30 degrees up in Grand Rapids.
I first checked out a bird house since they are only summer residents . I think getting and and out of the tiny hole might be a problem, so I checked out a hole in the oak tree. That seems to have a lot of promise other than I may be competing with a lot of other squirrels. Of course, I have my buddy Stella here so she can chase them away in case there is a problem.
I think when I get back home tomorrow I will talk to the owners to see if they can work out a sweet deal to stay in the warm house. So I think my best plan is to figure out something in the basement. I’ve been watching and except for when they have company and do laundry, I could have the whole place to myself!
So, I’m back home and I went downstairs when they weren’t looking. I discovered a couple of great options. One is in the woodpile next to the fireplace . I could actually hide my food, plus it looks like I could hang out with my “deer” friend. Then I explored some more and found a toy room filled with LEGO ships. As I ventured further, I discovered a cozy bed with a Raggedy Ann doll that I’ve learned belonged to Katie. It would be great to snuggle up to her all night and during long snowy days. So I’m down to two choices each with pluses and minuses. I suppose I could stay in one and play in the other. It will be a difficult choice that will take me a few days to decide. Maybe I’ll go back to St. Paul again and check out their basement.
Boy, I’m lucky to have some options other than being outside. Plus the bonus- other squirrels can’t get at my food! Speaking of that, my family bought a bunch of apples so I’m thinking I could sneak a couple and they wouldn’t even miss them. Just eating acorns all winter would be a bit too much. Maybe I can sneak an extra apple for my deer friend.
