Scottie and Amelia Fly South

Hey, Stuffie Friends! We hitched a ride to the Southwest recently and were rewarded with some trips to some beautiful National Parks. It was a perfect day to visit Zion–small crowd, great weather and lots to take in. Thankfully, we got to ride a shuttle bus around the park instead of walking or listening to grumbling about slow cars and gawking drivers. We got out a few times and went on some short hikes. Wonder what it’s like at the top of that cliff? Bet it’s a great view!

As you can see from the pictures, the scenery was amazing. Apparently there were this big icy things called glaciers and then a big heat lamp got put on them and they started to melt. All that cold, icy water washed the rock away and left this canyon. Why did some of the rock stay standing? We don’t know…

We also got to visit Valley of Fire State Park. We were met by Ranger Rita. She offered to give us a personal tour of the park–a deal we couldn’t refuse!

We got to climb on rock and to hide in some neat holes to cool off. It sure is hot out here! We also went on several trails where there were petroglyphs (ancient drawings in rock).

Some of you might remember all the downed trees in our yard last year. All those wonderful piles of branches to climb and play in have been taken away or used to make S’mores (mmmm….) over the fire. We asked Rita if we could take this pile home with us to use. She said everything in the park has to stay here but we could hang out as long as we liked. Sounded good to us- it was a perfect lunch spot!

Ranger Rita took time on her day off to show us the Petrified forest. That place was cool! It’s like there’s a bunch of trees but they’re not trees. They’re really rocks but they’re also trees? Don’t ask us. It was just a fun place to explore.

And there were also actual trees? This place has everything!

We learned a lot more on our trip but we’ll have to save that for another time. We’re headed out for ice cream, which waits for no one! See you soon!
