Musings in a Back Garden on a Summer's Day
Why is this plant so prickly? What is going on with these wavy looking leaves? Why are these plants growing on a deck in a bucket? Who put them here? Is there anything to eat anywhere nearby? How about some berries? Or tomatoes?
-Fajita
Whoa! Look at this amazing new flame I made! It happened when I ate cookies and cotton candy and sugar candies in one day. This looks incredible! I’ll have to stock up on all those tasty treats in the future. AND it didn’t smell like burnt sticks, either. It smelled like heaven.
-Taco
Heh, heh, heh… We’ve read that story about George and Martha and the hose.
-Yeti
We just need to figure out how to turn this hose on. There is definitely not enough power coming out of this hose for my plan to work. Can anyone here help me?
-Yeti
Fajita! Come here, quickly! I have something to show you while Yeti’s busy fixing the hose. I don’t want to say anymore right now but you’ll want to hop on over ASAP.
-Zeborah
What is this fascinating plant? Berries ripe and full! Looks pretty tasty to us. We climbed up here for a closer look and to figure out how to pick it. Unfortunately, Katie told us that it’s Sumac. You know, of POISON Sumac fame. Definitely NOT going to take a nibble anymore.
Well, would you look at this lovely little green blade of grass! It’s so amazing when you see something green poking up out of a patch of brown. How wonderful to see the rejuvenation that is possible in Nature! And you’d have to be looking closely to notice that under all of this sweet-smelling grass and moss, there’s an decaying piece of wood. And if you look even more closely, you’ll see all the turkey tail fungi growing underneath.
-Jicama
Poof! Freezy pop + snow cone + popsicle + banana float flames. Which flame is cooler? Hard to say. Such a fantabulous day!
-Taco
Pipe? What’s this pipe for? Where does it go? Does anything live in there? Helloooo! Anyone? Can I go in there to find out? Why not, Mama? How about later on?
-Fajita
Speaking of homes, we heard that this used to be used by some neighborhood songbirds. They loved nesting in this birdhouse. It’s currently decorating the front yard & waiting to be reinstalled on a tree or post nearby. Happy nesting, friends!
-Zeborah
Ummm, Yeti… I know you like to do this. You definitely can’t just hide in the tree and stay here at their house. Just because we got to make S’mores here one time (when you ate an entire bag of marshmallows with Taco) doesn’t mean that they’ll give you endless treats.
