It's Like Looking in a Mirror
Hey, all! It’s us, the OG Little Guy 2 and Little Guy 2 the Second. And Gertie the turtle. We recently had a wonderful time at House in the Wood. It’s a camp in WI that has an Outdoor Education Center with lots of the best kinds of animals. (We’re talking about reptiles, of course.) Oh, and they also had some fish. Cold & scaly- close enough. They’re also super great because they are feeder fish used to keep this turtle healthy and happy.
It was while watching our new turtle friend that I (OG LG 2) noticed something. These 2 turtles look exactly the same! Shell- check. Long neck- check. Four legs and a tail- check. Cute face- check. It’s Gertie’s long lost twin! Hooray!
But, wait. Gertie looks a little like this turtle, too. Thomasina and I could be besties in a minute. Though, really, she’s more like a grandmother type. Too wrinkly to be a perfect match. She did seem very curious about the visitors to her cage. And we know she loves going on walkabout in and outside of the nature center. One thing she didn’t seem to like was looking out a second story window at the birds at the feeders. We can see why that would make a turtle nervous. We felt a little wary ourselves.
Good thing there was a cozy nest nearby to snuggle in and take a nap.
Nap over. (Insert yawn here.) We found this HUGE pine cone. It is SOOOOO big compared to us. If only it were a brownie towering over us instead.
Now that we’d had some turtle fun, it was our turn to find some lizards. You’ll see how much we look almost exactly like them. Sure, they could be a little more colorful but other than that…
One lizard was nearby. Luckily, Ladybeard the bearded dragon was inside her house with the lid securely fastened. The minute we showed up, her head swiveled towards us and she looked like she wanted to come our way. Based on our extensive reptile knowledge, we knew what that meant. She thought we were food and wanted to eat us right up! (She didn’t- you can breathe.)
Thank goodness she wasn’t the only lizard in the room. The other one was way friendlier.
When we asked if he wanted to come out and play, he said “yes, please!” and joined us on the carpet. We had a marvelous time! He was a little worried he’d have to share his carrots with us. We reassured him that if it wasn’t chocolate, we weren’t interested.
And the last reptile we found couldn’t be happier to have visitors. We showed them who was boss. Victorious at last!
See you soon!
